Counseling Service

Hello MBA Students,

My name is Melanie Walker and I am a social worker who, for the past 3 years, has had the privilege to provide counseling services to the MBA students. I have been working as a social worker since 1997 after graduating from McMaster with an MSW. I have spent the last 14 years working at Joseph Brant Hospital in mental health and have recently opened private practice with a focus on depression, anxiety and healthy coping.

University can be a very stressful time with demands from many different sources. I think it is important to manage stress using healthy coping strategies and to strive towards some type of work/school/life balance. I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and I try to take a holistic perspective when looking at a person’s issues and possible solutions. Students seek counselling for a variety of reasons with the most common concerns being anxiety, low mood, sleep difficulties, stress and time management.

I hope you will feel comfortable connecting with me on any concerns you may be struggling with. I can be reached through e-mail at or feel free to text or call me at 905-483-7502.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have a question or concern. I am located on the 2nd floor in the Dean’s Office area and am available by appointment.  I try to be very flexible with my availability and am happy to meet in person or speak by phone if that is more convenient.

I look forward to working with you.

Melanie Walker
